Video Call

Nowadays with the technology available it is possible to have your counsellor come to your home – via Video Call. There are multiple ways to do this but I found, for the time being, Skype and Face Time two very useful ways to do this.

Skype: Image
Skype has been around for some time and the teething problems hopefully have been solved. Skype offers the ability to talk face-to-face for free using video calls. All you need is a computer with camera, microphone and speakers – most computers come with these features. Then you have to download the skype program onto your computer and know the person’s Skype user name to connect with them.

You can use Skype on your computer, mobile or even on your TV. Read more here.

Face Time:Image
In comparison to Skype, Face Time is a Mac only program or application. It offers video calling from your iPhone 4, iPad 2, new iPod touch and any other Mac computer. This allows you to make that call from anywhere where you have access to a wireless network.

Face Time uses mobile phone numbers or email addresses and it can, on the computer, access your address book.

Face Time from phone to phone works only if both parties are on a wireless and it’s free of charge! Read more here.

So what are you waiting for?

If you’re wondering whether this is really working, here is a testimonial of a client who tried both face-to-face and video sessions:

Having had counselling with Nathalie now for nearly four years, the last 18 months we have used Skype rather than in her home. For me, Skype has actually unlocked more growth and openness in our sessions. I feel comfortable, safe and relaxed in my own home environment, which in my experience allows me to sink into how I’m feeling far more easily. There is also an intimacy that I can’t quite explain, when someone is watching and holding a space for you from a distance. It allows the room and freedom to really explore, knowing that you don’t have to ‘pull it all together’ before you leave. Julie

Skype Session Becoming More And More Popular

Many clients of mine live interstate or in areas where they cannot physically reach the clinic, but this does not mean they cannot ‘Reach for the Sky’!

This week I’ve had the pleasure to engage in daily Skype sessions with clients from Melbourne, Byron Bay, Wollongong, just to name a few. So how does this work?

Skype offers free voice and video calls to anyone else on Skype, conference calls with three or more people and some other features. In addition they offer very affordable rates to call landlines and mobiles from your computer. As an effect, personally I practically no longer use my home phone.

This is what it will look like , when I talk to some of my clients:

Video Calling using Skype

On this picture you can see that Barbara is talking to her husband Martin. He can see her picture in large and his picture in the corner on the left.

Depending on your computer you can use your internal microphone and speakers or you might needs to purchase a headset (like in the example shown). Most new computers already have an built-in camera, if not, they are also available to buy at most office supply shops.

Here’s what you need to do to try it out:

1. Go to www.skype.com and download the program onto your computer.

2. Start adding contacts by clicking on ‘Add Contact’ – on the PC version you can see the button (in the picture just above Martin Anderson’s name), on the Mac version you’ll find it when going to ‘Contacts’ in the navigation menu. You can find contacts either by adding their first and last name and click on ‘search’ or if you know it, add their skype user name.

3. Make a test call with someone you know.

How about a Skype Counselling or Coaching session?

My clients receive great benefit from these sessions, similar to a session in person here at the clinic.

Here is what Karen said after her session this week, where I coached her on releasing her fear of public speaking:

By the end of the session I feel completely confident with the idea of speaking in front of a large group of people.
I made friend with what will naturally occur in the body in that situation.
I now have strategies in place to help me find my power source.
It was a strong visual and sensory experience that will enable me to remember – the breath activates the visual.

Let’s give it a go – if you’re interested to do a Skype session, send me an email or give me a call; 0405 701 707.
